Amboseli National Park safari

This park is known for elephants, and we saw a lot of them. They haven't had rain since March, so things were drying up a bit. There is still water in the marshes, which causes the majority of the animals to head there to drink... as a result, they are a little further from the roads, and us, than they would be if it were the rainy season. None the less, I got to see a lot of animals. Here are some of the things we saw along the way...

And that was all between the airport and camp...

Here is my guide Wilson (not his real name... they all get English names so us dumb tourists can remember them) checking to see what's where...

Then there are the "sundowners"...

A little bush happy hour to watch the sunset... with beer, wine, and gin & tonics, along with "munchings" as they call them, nuts and snack mix. The sunset are amazing, and then the stars come out, but you have to see them to believe them. One of our guides, Harry, gave us a detailed lecture on which stars were which and how to find the constellations. It was a great lesson, but only works in the southern hemisphere... : ) on the way back to camp, we would have a night drive safari, and upon return a hot shower and dinner.
